For the past few months, I have been hearing this reoccurring theme around me: “Chavon, get God’s best for your life,” “You deserve God’s best," or “Don’t settle.” I listened to the words. However, I don’t really think the idea that I can 100% have God’s best for me life ever truly settled in my spirit. In fact, I know it hasn’t. Admittedly, I am guilty of thinking at times that God will only bless me in some areas of my life, but not others. I think that He can give someone else a great ministry, a dream job, open up doors for their desires, or whatever else, but when it comes to me, I question whether God will come through for me. Crazy right? I know.
One morning during quiet time, the Lord started dealing with me on what it means for his people to want His best for our lives. He told me to write this blog as a letter from Him. Here goes…
Dear My Child,
Do you really want my best for your life or are you just giving me lip service? I hear you say time and time again, “Lord, I trust you. I know that you can do anything. I want your best. I want what you have for me. I don’t want to miss you.” However, if you really desire my best for your life, you would trust me even when it’s uncomfortable for you.
The odd thing about you my child is that you make a list of all these things that you want from me. You say, “Lord, I put this in your hands. I give it to you.” Then, when you feel like I am taking too long, you back away from your list of desires. You convince yourself that I won’t come through for you, or worse, that it’s impossible for me to perform. Don’t you know who I am? I am God. What is impossible or too hard for me? After all, I created you. It’s laughable for you to think that I am limited.
Why would I give my children, those who are in me and who seek after me, less than what they deserve? Why would I ask you to come to me in prayer, if I was just going to refuse to hear you? Why would I give you something hurtful or less than desirable? Haven’t you read Matthew 7:9?
Matthew 7:9 asks, “You parents- if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or, if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not!” My position on the matter is clear. “So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him?”
Now, don’t mistake what I am saying to mean that you don’t have to wait. Your patience and trust in me will be tested. There will be times when you just don’t understand, when you feel like I won’t come through for you. But, don’t fret. I AM. I am the Lord thy God. Complete trust and faith in me is what moves me. It’s in those times when you can’t trace me, where you have to learn to trust me even more. I am always working behind the scenes. Remember, my child, I reward faith.
I too get frustrated when you lack faith, and have the audacity to give up on me when I don’t move according to your mere human schedule. I hear your complaints, “I want money.” “I want to be married now.” “My clock is ticking.” Don’t you know your time is NOT MY TIME? I run this show. You cannot force my hand. I have the final say, and when I do show up its better than your little mind can imagine.
You say you love me. You say you want MY best… well prove it. Don’t give me lip service. TRUST ME. One last thing, love me with all your mind, strength, heart and soul, and I will reveal myself to you. In the meantime, Rest. I’ve got this.
Cheers to a Rescued Heart ♥,
